“HOW SALLA AND SIMON MET”
Salla works in marketing and Simon is a co-founder of a microbrewery, they planned their wedding ceremony at Kansallissali, Helsinki, Finland with the reception party at Villa Andania, an hours boat ride off the shores of Helsinki. The wedding was planned by event planners Hey Look, in charge of graphical elements, flowers and decorations they made this wedding simple and elegant, they wanted a Finnish forest theme for the wedding in Helsinki; simple, romantic with natural green and white flowers and birch elements.
Salla and Simon met online in December 2011, however their paths had nearly crossed several times during the 7 years that preceded; for example, they lived one street across from each other in East London, both often visiting the same corner shop, Salla’s school friend from her small town in Finland worked with Simon’s childhood friend for years (she even met his friend before Simon) and we were even present at the same house parties and gigs.
They got engaged in October 2016 and are a modern couple so they both agreed that engagement was on the agenda, however it took Simon to pop the question at their house on a rainy Wednesday evening to the tune of fairy lights, candles and flowers.
They wanted their wedding day in Helsinki to be representative of the beautiful summer days they spent in Finland. The quiet summer cabin life and the simplicity of Finnish nature inspired them a lot and guided their flower, food and music selections.
Another important element for them was to make their Helsinki wedding a representative of the values around equality they uphold. They wanted to walk down the aisle together as a sign of stepping into their marriage together.
The wedding dress; Rue de Seine Bridal ‘Hunter Gown’ purchased through Leonie Claire Bridal. Salla fell in love with Rue de Seine’s designs even before I got engaged she love’s their ‘cool’ bridal gowns for the untraditional bride, particularly the Stevie Nicks inspired sleeves of my dress. With a veil from Leonie Claire, shoes from Saint Laurent and a spritz of Mayan Njie ‘Les Fleurs’, chosen for its floral and natural scent. Her flaxen hair was style into perfectly tousled waves by Folk Helsinki and her perfect makeup was applied by Aino-Sofia Kojen.
Simon wore Hardy Amies with a shirt and tie from Reiss. Finishing the outfit off with a simple pair of Clarkes shoes, Elegant and effortless.

Salla turned up to the ceremony in a red vintage Jaguar, they walked down the aisle together as they felt they wanted to step into our marriage together. they also did a ‘first look’ before the ceremony started which was a fantastic private moment for just the two of them. They walked down the isle to Aphex Twin - Avril 14th. They had friends perform two readings at the ceremony. Kahlil Gibran - On Marriage. Love one another, but make not a bond of love. Their guests were transported from the wedding ceremony venue to the reception venue on a wooden boat that cruised through the Finnish archipelago which seemed the perfect way to arrive and meet Salla and Simon on the jetty where they enjoyed friends and family, food and wine.
Salla says “Our wedding waltz on the beach was pretty special and just how we’d imagined it and we only nearly fell over once! Seeing our friends and family dance the night away was also amazing”
